LED Traffic Lights vs. Snow

Many cities have been replacing traditional incandescent traffic lights with more energy-efficient LED lights. The problem is that the LEDs are so energy efficient that they don’t melt the snow that accumulates.

Fortunately, as Engadget points out, most people treat a non-functional traffic lights as a stop sign. I guess that would work if the lights are equally blocked in every direction. If one direction was not blocked and was green while everyone else is treating it as a stop sign, that would cause a few accidents and apparently has.
